A resounding "yes" to Germany

Locating in Germany has always been one of HEXAL's guiding principles. This applies not only to management, administration and sales & marketing, but also to development and production. Accordingly, most of HEXAL's pharmaceuticals are developed and manufactured in Germany for German consumers.

Following German reunification, HEXAL undertook more long-term investment in the new federal states than any other German pharmaceuticals manufacturer. This level of commitment was second to none in the country's pharmaceuticals sector – and it continues to this day: with 4,300 employees at six locations in the Federal Republic, including four production plants in the new federal states, HEXAL is wholly committed to its home country.

HEXAL AG, Holzkirchen near Munich The company's operations are managed and administered from HEXAL headquarters in the town of Holzkirchen in Upper Bavaria. Here, more than 1,000 personnel are employed, chiefly in general administration, marketing and the development of medicinal products. In addition, a highly specialized production unit manufactures the transdermal therapeutic systems developed by HEXAL. SALUTAS Pharma GmbH, Magdeburg The Salutas Pharma GmbH is one of the most modern and most efficient pharmaceuticals production and logistics centers in the whole of Europe. Some €170 million was invested in the plant, which went into full operation in 1995 and currently has close to 1,500 employees on its payroll. The Salutas range of products comprises solid peroral medicinal products, including specially manufactured, highly effective pharmaceuticals. Around 300 active pharmaceutical ingredients are processed into some 10,000 different end products. In 2007, the Barleben facility produced 10 billion tablets and capsules. Salutas Pharma GmbH, Osterweddingen Plant The manufacturing facility in Osterweddingen in Saxony-Anhalt has been part of the Salutas Pharma GmbH since 2004. The plant is a "Center of Excellence", specializing in the manufacture and bottling/packaging of semi-solid products (ointments, creams and gels) and effervescent tablets, chiefly for the German, eastern and western European, Mexican, Japanese and South African markets. Some 30 active pharmaceutical ingredients are processed to yield 250 different medicinal products. Salutas Pharma GmbH, Gerlingen Plant The Gerlingen facility near Stuttgart has been part of the Salutas Pharma GmbH since August 2006. At present the plant is being expanded and will in future be the number two Sandoz packaging center in western Europe. In 2007/2008 there will be 11 packaging lines for the manufacture of blister packs in addition to 4 production lines for the bottling/packaging of solid medicinal products. The company's core competency is the manufacture of antiasthmatic and dermatological sprays. In the pharmaceutical liquids sector, AEROPHARM focuses on the two highly specialized fields: ophthalmic and rhinological products. Up to 500 different sterile medicinal products are produced, bottled and packaged here under GMP-compliant cleanroom conditions, including injection and infusion solutions and implants developed by HEXAL.
